11 Ukrainian academicians dedicate their wisdom to Ningbo

On the morning of October 4th, starting from the Talent Apartment in Ninghai County Science and Technology Park and walking for 5 minutes, Brook Igor, the leader of the magnetic materials project of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, came to the Chinese Research Center of the Institute of Material Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and started a day of research and development.

2020 is the second year that Professor Brooke has come to Ningbo. He not only understands and uses common Chinese words such as "Xiexie"(Thank you) and "Zaijian"(Goodbye). The vast market, efficient business environment, and the atmosphere of valuing talents made him believe that the results of his decades’ research can come out of the dusty hard disk and become a reality.

In September 2017, as the largest and internationally renowned material research institute in Europe, the Materials Research Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine signed a cooperation agreement with the Ningbo Municipal People’s Government; in March of the following year, as the only platform to carry out technology transfer, technology research and development and technology service in China, the Chinese Research Center of the Institute of Materials Issues of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Ningbo Franzevich Institute of Materials) settled in Ninghai.

Since then, a large number of top global experts and scholars from Ukraine's top universities and research institutions have crossed the mountains and rivers to the coast of the East China Sea. Many of them are leaders in advanced materials research in the field of equipment manufacturing in Ukraine, and their cutting-edge scientific research directions are highly compatible with Ningbo's development positioning in the field of new materials.

"I finally found a new stage here." The energetic academician Alexander Moriard is the first full-time foreign academician introduced by Ningbo. Over the years, he has successively introduced aviation equipment-grade titanium alloys and damping bearings to the center. Major projects and hard-core technology, and was awarded "Ningbo Outstanding Talents" in September.

In just two years, 11 Ukrainian academicians chose to come to Ningbo full-time, bringing their teams to carry out technology research and development and achievement transformation. Relying on the technical support of talents, the center has independently or jointly completed 8 R&D projects and 14 research projects, and has mastered a batch of hard-core technologies that fill the gaps at home and abroad, replace imports, and reach the international advanced level.

"I chose to come to China because there are more market-oriented applications here, and many of my ideas can be implemented more quickly." Brooke gave many thumbs up for Ningbo's talent service and market environment. At present, he has negotiated with a number of Ningbo companies. The next step will be to rely on the local R&D team to accelerate the provision of magnetic materials with better technical performance for new energy electric vehicles.

According to statistics, the center has established cooperative relations with 10 mainstream academies of sciences in Ukraine, and introduced 52 experts from the Ukrainian side. Among them, 8 have independently applied to be selected as municipal-level and above talent introduction programs, 2 have won the Chinese Government Friendship Award, and 2 have won West Lake Friendship Award, 6 people won the Ningbo Camellia Award.
