    Ningbo’s answer to cultural tourism development: the 5 Hundead 5 Thousand Project

    The Ningbo International Tourism Exhibition 2022 kicked off on December 23, bringing visitors a variety of immersive, enjoyable activities.

     

    At the opening ceremony of the event, the “5 Hundred 5 Thousand” Project, a three-year action plan that aims to integrate the city’s cultural tourism industry was officially launched. According to the plan, Ningbo will implement five sub-projects that target the city’s local cuisine, homestay industry, folkcraft, etc. and put out an array of cultural tourism products with distinctive local characteristics to promote the city’s tourism brand.

     

    Integration of culture and tourism & new forms of exhibition and interaction

     

    In the various sections of the Exhibition such as the Homestay Pavilion, Camping Zone and Food Area, visitors are presented with diverse experiences full of local and popular elements.

    In the Ningbo Cultural Tourism Integration Pavilion, one of the key sections of the Exhibition, four distinct themes are exhibited through texts, graphics, immersive scenes, interactive experiences and other means, offering the public an opportunity to feel the charm of Ningbo’s rich cultural tourism resources.

     

    The Exhibition also features a series of “cultural tourism Plus” activities including the Beilun Meishan Lion Dance show and the promotional event of Dongqian Lake Song-Style Dian Cha. Many visitors were attracted to watch the shows and scenery, experience the culture and enjoy the food.

     

    Ningbo cultural tourism will make great strides by 2025

     

    At the site of this year’s tourism exhibition, there are a dazzling array of delicacies from all over Ningbo including Yinzhou district, Ninghai county and Xiangshan county.

     

    In the next three years, the Ningbo cultural tourism “Five Hundred and Five Thousand” project will create more iconic products with distinctive local elements that integrate into public life and evoke nostalgia based on the “Hundred Bowls of Ningbo Cuisine” and the new forms of business.

     

    Specifically, the project, focusing on food, B&B, souvenirs, and other popular cultural and tourism elements, will select 100 Ningbo specialty delicacies, build 100 rural-style B&Bs, develop 100 cultural and creative souvenirs with Ningbo characteristics, create 100 Ningbo representative performing arts projects and cultivate 100 bazaars with regional features.

     

    “If Ningbo city wants to increase its popularity, cultural tourism has to take the lead.” According to the Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism, using three years to promote this project is to give full play to the mutual promotion role of culture and tourism, and combine the regional characteristics and rich resources of the city to create more, newer and better cultural and tourism products, so as to help build Ningbo into a modern coastal metropolis and the city model of Chinese path to modernization.

     

    Focus on unique strengths and build the project with high standards

     

    In recent years, the Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism has actively promoted the integration of culture and tourism, and created cultural products and tourism patterns with distinctive regional characteristics and profound cultural connotations according to local conditions.

     

    The project, which is about to be promoted, focuses on the integration of cultural tourism. According to industry experts, “Hundred Bowls of Ningbo cuisine” will highlight the “high standard”, and create a brand with regional identity, unique flavor and cultural connotation. The construction of 100 rural-style B&Bs focuses on “high quality”, creating a group of accommodation industry brands with Zhejiang rural style and Ningbo characteristic elements. Cultural and creative souvenirs will take “great taste” as a priority, which will strengthen the research and development of cultural creation, promote brand transformation, and display Ningbo’s profound cultural heritage and exquisite craftsmanship in the form of accompanying gifts. Meanwhile, in terms of the arts, the project will optimize the performing arts space at a high level, bring arts and culture to urban and rural areas, promote intangible cultural heritage skills, and further develop works and brands that combine performing arts and skills with national influence.
