Winter is the season for water conservancy projects

Recently, the construction site of the Qingxi Reservoir in Ninghai County has been bustling with the roar of machinery and the constant movement of vehicles. Workers are braving the cold to pour concrete for the dam. According to reports, during the New Year holiday, over 680 workers remained on site, racing against time to meet construction deadlines. Through their hard work, the dam is gradually "growing taller."

Lin Daotong, a staff member at the Qingxi Reservoir Project Command, stated that by the end of last year, the reservoir construction had achieved significant milestones. The total volume of concrete poured for the dam exceeded 400,000 cubic meters, completing nearly half of the dam’s concrete work, with the highest point reaching 51 meters.

"We are overcoming unfavorable conditions and fully committed to the construction, working around the clock to ensure the dam reaches its full height by December this year," Lin said.

Currently, winter is the prime time for water conservancy projects. Across the city, efforts are focused on accelerating construction progress. Builders at project sites are closely following schedules, driving a surge in construction activity for water conservancy projects.

At the construction site of the first-phase project for the comprehensive flood control and drainage improvement in Fenghua's main urban area, excavators are hard at work, and construction personnel are taking advantage of clear weather to expedite operations.

As a major livelihood project aimed at alleviating urban flooding in Fenghua, the project is currently focused on advancing the construction of catchment wells and the renovation of some road rainwater and sewage systems. So far, 40% of the total project has been completed. According to the construction plan, all pile foundation work for the catchment wells will be finished before this year’s Spring Festival.

In Fanshidu Village, Jiangshan Town, Yinzhou District, the Fanshidu Pumping Station project is in full swing. The station is primarily designed for drainage and flood control, while also improving the water ecological environment. It has a designed drainage capacity of 20 cubic meters per second and a total investment of over 78 million yuan. Construction began last September. Once completed, the project will further enhance the flood control and drainage system of the Yinzhou Southeast Plain, improving overall drainage capacity.

In Ninghai County, plans for this year include the commencement of 10 kilometers of seawall reinforcement projects and the continuation of 18.5 kilometers of such projects. Additionally, key water conservancy projects such as the Qimentang Embankment Reinforcement and the Lixi River Small Watershed Management will be completed. Projects like the Yan Gong River Ecological Water Diversion will also progress, contributing to the continuous improvement of water conservancy infrastructure.

Major water conservancy projects serve as a crucial engine for stabilizing investment and promoting growth. According to information from the municipal water conservancy bureau, the city completed over 18 billion yuan in water conservancy investment last year, maintaining its leading position in the province. Seventy key ongoing projects progressed smoothly, with major projects such as the Haishu Yanshan Main River and the Yuyao Lower Yaojiang Embankment Improvement accelerating their construction. The Yuyao North Drainage Second Channel (Qingshan Port and Jiangjialong River Improvement Project) has achieved water flow, and the newly built Taojialu Offshore Pumping Station is now operational. Projects such as the Qingxi Reservoir and Baikeng Reservoir have entered the full-scale dam construction phase, while the East-West Connection Project of the Reservoir Cluster has been fully connected. Key projects such as the Dasong Area Water Resources Allocation and the Yuyao Huangming Reservoir were initiated as scheduled.

A representative from the Municipal Water Conservancy Bureau stated that Ningbo will focus on six key areas: river basin flood control, efficient water resource allocation and supply, seawall reinforcement, systematic urban flood management, urban-rural sewage system improvement, and ecological and livelihood-enhancing "Happy Rivers and Lakes." The city aims to accelerate the construction of major water conservancy projects, laying a solid foundation for Ningbo’s development as a modern coastal metropolis.
